Dr. Chung-Yi Wu Wins 2014 American Chemical Society David Y. Gin New Investigator Award

DrWu ACSGenomics Research Center, Associate Research Fellow, Dr. Chung-Yi Wu has been elected the winner of the 2014 David Y. Gin New Investigator Award. The Award is sponsored by the Division of Carbohydrate Chemistry of the American Chemical Society (ACS). The award will be presented to Dr. Wu in March, 2014 during the ACS National Meeting in Dallas, Texas. The award ceremony will be followed by a  lecture by Dr. Wu.

Dr. Wu’s research focuses on the development of novel and efficient methodologies for the preparation of biologically potent oligosaccharides including designing new sugar arrays to address oligosaccharide bio-function. Oligosaccharides are found in cancer and infectious diseases and are under active investigation by several groups at Academia Sinica for their promising potential use in carbohydrate-based vaccines.

The American Chemical Society, founded in 1876, is a scientific society based in the United States that supports scientific inquiry in the field of chemistry. A number of sucrose-oriented scientists formalized the Division of Carbohydrate Chemistry Division in 1919. The ACS David Y. Gin New Investigator Award was established by the Division in 2003 to “recognize a younger carbohydrate scientist who has demonstrated excellence in the field and shows promise continuing to make quality contributions to carbohydrate chemistry and biochemistry.” Candidates for of this award must be in their first seven years of an independent career.

Dr. C.Y. Wu started his primary investigation career as an assistant researcher in the Genomics Research Center in 2006. He is the first Taiwan scientist to win this award.
