Dr. Tsung-Lin Li awarded the 2023 NSTC Outstanding Research Award

Dr. Li has long dedicated to the specialty of natural products biosynthesis, antibiotics development, and structural mechanistic design of biocatalysts. Antibiotic drug resistance is an intrinsic urgent threat; it is happening right now facing our entire community. His most recent finding is a non-canonical FAD-dependent enzyme Orf1 committing N-formimidoylation of antibiotic BD-12. Such a modification enables antibiotics immune to aminoglycoside-modifying enzymes, a strategy useful for developing next-generation antibiotics.
