Mini-symposium on Chaperones in Health and Disease

We are thrilled to extend a warm invitation to all of you to join us for an enlightening and insightful mini-symposium titled "Chaperones in Health and Disease." This event, featuring talks by Dr. Franz-Ulrich Hartl and Dr. Manajit Hayer-Hartl, and hosted by Dr. Yun-Ru (Ruby) Chen, is scheduled to take place at the GRC 1F Auditorium at 2:00 PM on September 6, 2023 (Wednesday).

Speakers and Topics:

Dr. Franz-Ulrich Hartl: "Chaperones of the Cell: Functions in Health and Disease"

Dr. Manajit Hayer-Hartl: "Cellular Machineries Devoted to Rubisco — Nature’s Predominant CO2 Fixing Enzyme"

About the Speakers:

Dr. Franz-Ulrich Hartl is the Director and head of the Department of Cellular Biochemistry at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry and is a distinguished figure in the field of cell biology. His extensive research in protein folding, protein aggregation, and proteostasis has revolutionized our understanding of these processes. His groundbreaking discoveries led him to receive the 2023 Schleiden Medal from the Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the 2020 Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences. Dr. Hartl's research has significantly advanced our knowledge of neurodegenerative diseases and the intricate mechanisms that underlie cellular health.

Dr. Manajit Hayer-Hartl is the Group Leader of "Chaperonin-assisted Protein Folding" at the Department of Cellular Biochemistry, Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry. With an impressive track record, she has earned recognition for her exceptional contributions to the field of biochemistry. Her achievements include the prestigious 2020/2021 ASBMB–Merck Award, celebrating her outstanding research accomplishments. Dr. Hayer-Hartl is also honored as a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) and the Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. Her expertise lies in molecular chaperones and their vital role in facilitating proper protein folding and assembly. Her recent work on the crucial enzyme Rubisco has illuminated new frontiers in the realm of photosynthesis.
